Happy New Year! I wish you all a wonderful start of 2018 and a successful year ahead!
2017 has been a difficult year for me. During the past year, I had some significant changes in my personal life commitment so blogging has been put on shelf for a long while. With the 2017 ending in 4 hours, I felt so relieved and am really looking forward to a great 2018. Next year, I will try to do 1-2 posts each week so there is always something coming your way.
Anyway, back onto the topic, Tina and I had an excellent experience at The Beach Hotel in Seaford. The food, the atmosphere and the location are all fantastic! This multi-award winner is just minutes away from the beach by car and includes a bistro section with bar and plenty of alcohol choices, as well as function areas which can accommodate various types.
The Beach Hotel has won a number of awards in the industry, including the 2014 AHA|SA Hotel Industry Awards For Excellence and the 2017 AHA|SA Award for ‘Healthy Kids Menu’. The environment is quite diner friendly and is suitable for social gatherings or family get-together.
The hotel has a large range of dishes on offer as shown below but the most famous is the Charcoal Rotisserie meats. When we were there, only chicken was available so please be reminded to go dinner if you want to experience the charcoal rotisserie. 🙂 I can tell you now, I would love to go back at dinner time to try this as other dishes were really done beautifully in flavour!!!
The dishes of the bistro focus on meat and seafood. We started with seafood and finished with meat. It would be great if we tried their charcoal rotisserie but never mind, it will be on our agenda for the next visit. As usual, for drink, I went with my good ol’ lemon lime bitters.

Lemon Lime Bitters – I especially like the water glasses. They really fit for the seaside scene. Don’t you think so? 🙂
For starters, we ordered oysters. Being a pub at the seaside, these oysters do exceed my expectations! The natural ones were so condensed with the umami taste and fresh seafood essence that a strict foodie would not be disappointed! The kilpatriks had a good bunch of bacon on top and they introduced enough saltiness to combine with the flavours of the oysters. Good!

The bistro have a platter which covered most of their entrees. We decided to go with the platter to try these lovely small dishes all in one go.
Tasting Platter, $28
The tasting platter contained (start from top right corner and go clockwise) Mushroom & Spinach Arancini, Pork & Prawn Dumplings w/ soy mirin dipping sauce, Pulled Pork & Potato Bites w/ smokey chipotle BBQ sauce and White Bait Fritters w/ garlic aioli. These four are all very crunchy and flavourful but out of the four, the favourite for me was the mushroom and spinach aracini balls. The taste of the moist internal rice was infused with the fragrance of the mushrooms and the rice was quite soft. The experience was just fantastic on every bite.
The white bait fritter was the second on my preference list. It was not a fritter of just white bait but instead the fish was wrapped in crunchy deep fried base. Dipping it into the garlic aioli gave a really different but enjoyable experience. The crunchiness and the garlic infusion alongside with the slight saltiness from the white bait lifted the total flavour of this dish to a newer level. Great choice!
For the mains, I went with the 300g Scotch (medium rare as usual) and Tina decided to have the smoky BBQ pork ribs.

The serve at the Beach Hotel was huge and the quality of the meat was great too! I normally order medium rare to test the quality of the meat and I can be 100% that the meat quality at the Beach Hotel is top notch. The scotch was done to perfection with the outside being really well charred while the inside was still pink. The meat was so delicious and flavourful that I finished it so quickly! Highly recommended!~
Smoky BBQ Pork Ribs, $26 – BQQ glazed pork ribs served with coleslaw, chargrilled corn and criss cross fries.
OMG! The meat was cooked almost off the bone and cutting was never easier like this one. The meat was tender and moist and effectively melt-in-the-mouth. 🙂 The BBQ sauce flavour fully covered the meat and complemented well with the crispy fries. The coleslaw added the refreshing touch. Absolutely beautiful!
Ever wondered what the charcoal rotisserie that I missed out looked like? Here you go… I had the pleasure to visit the quite clean kitchen and see the rotisserie in action!!! The meat is slowly roasted over the charcoal and will be ready for serving for dinner. Looks yum right?! My mouth is also watering while I am typing. I must go back to try the rotisserie meat at night at some stage!!!
This is Daniel, the Head Chef at The Beach Hotel. He has been in the industry for well over 20 years and the experience and his love of cooking can be tasted in the food served. The hotel uses local produce whenever possible and has own a number of AHA awards. I strongly recommend my dear readers to give the Beach Hotel a crack – A weekday dinner or weekend lunch will do?
