IKEA ADELAIDE – the Food

A trip down Ikea to see what’s on offer at the moment cos I needed a coffee table. Gosh, I haven’t been there for ages. However, there wasn’t anything interesting but got a really good one at Le Cornu. While at Ikea, we tried their restaurant for the first time cos I don’t normally trust this type of fast food. Yes, I was correct. The quality of food is below standard fast food I should say. Therefore, instead of writing heaps about it, I’ll just show some pics in this post.

Located on the second floor of IKEA, the restaurant is ideal for a quick lunch/dinner while shopping if you are not too fuss about the quality.

The restaurant serves fast food and diners are required to pick up their food and pay at the cashier.

We ordered the meat balls with cream sauce, potatoes and lingonberry sauce ($8.95), chicken schnitzel with chips ($4.95) and deep fried barramundi with chips ($4.50). The meat balls are their specialties and were actually okay with strong beef flavour and fine texture. However, the chicken schnitzel and deep fried barramundi were over cooked and the meat were too dry and tasteless. I didn’t expect much but how can one go wrong with deep fried items? It’s below the normal standard of fast food restaurants.

Although I didn’t like the food at the restaurant, I found some simple but delicious stuffs at their food market.

Räkor utan skal (left $4.95 for 250g) and Räkor med ska (right $7.50 for 500g)

Räkor med ska and Räkor utan skal – prawns of cold water (both freshwater and sea) from North Europe. They have very fine textures with slight yet concentrated sweetness. Best thawed until tender and serve with tartar or mayo. I loved these prawns for a long time since I was very young cos Dad used to buy heaps of them and cook~ yum!

Tangkorn seaweed topping (left $5.95) and Sillrom Herring Roe (right $5.95)

Tangkorn seaweed topping – I am always seeking different caviar styled food. The tangkorn is a vegetarian version of it. They tasted a bit saltiness as well as distinctive fresh seaweed flavour. What a sea bream!~

Sillrom Herring Roe – salty herring roe ideal for drinking with vodka or plating on sushi.
